After a number of Covid-related delays, the highly anticipated Wonder Woman 1984 sequel is officially set to debut in cinemas and HBO Max on the same day, 25 December, reports Variety.

In countries where HBO Max is not available, the DC vehicle starring Gal Gadot will debut on 16 December.

“At some point you have to choose to share any love and joy you have to give, over everything else. We love our movie as we love our fans, so we truly hope that our film brings a little bit of joy and reprieve to all of you this holiday season.

“Watch it in theatres, where it is made safe to do so (check out the great work theatres have done to make it so!) And available in the safety of your home on HBO Max where it is not. Happy holidays to all of you. We hope you enjoy our film as much as we enjoyed making it.”

As previously reported, the sequel, which follows Jenkins’ 2017 Wonder Woman film, has been subject to many delays over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, having been originally scheduled for release in 2019 and was subsequently pushed to 5 June, 2020.

It was later moved to to  14 August, 2 October, and most recently — as of September — 25 December.

“First and foremost let me say how much Gal and I love all our devoted Wonder Woman fans around the world, and your excitement for WW84 couldn’t make us happier or more eager for you to see the movie,” Jenkins said at the time.
