Pennsylvania officials will be able to certify election results showing a Joe Biden victory in the state after a federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by Donald Trump’s campaign which sought to invalidate millions of mail-in votes.

US District Judge Matthew Brann said the Trump campaign had presented “strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations … unsupported by evidence.”

It came as the president’s team requested a recount in Georgia in the latest desperate attempt to overturn the result of the election, which Mr Biden won by more than six million votes.

‘This isn’t a game’: Biden official’s warning over transition delays

Officials in the Biden-Harris transition team have again criticised Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the presidential election result and cooperate with the transfer of power.

The General Services Administration has not yet acknowledged Joe Biden’s victory despite him being projected as the winner of the election.

“This isn’t a game of who gets to talk to whom,” Yohannes Abraham, a spokesperson for Mr Biden’s transition, said, warning that delays in the process would have national security and public health implications.

“Our inability to start the informal agency review process has the potential to have real impacts across the country.

“There’s no replacing the real-time information that can only come from the post-ascertainment environment that we should be in right now.”

Experimental Covid antibody drug given to Trump receives emergency authorisation

US health officials have agreed to allow emergency use for an experimental antibody drug which was given to Donald Trump when he contracted coronavirus last month.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorised use of the Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc drug to try to prevent hospitalisation and worsening disease in patients with mild-to-moderate symptoms.

The FDA will allow its use in adults and children aged 12 and over who weigh at least 88 pounds (40kg) and who are at high risk of severe illness from Covid-19 because of age or certain other medical conditions.

Early results suggest the drug may reduce Covid-19-related hospitalisation or emergency room visits in patients at high risk for disease progression, the organisation said.

Regeneron said that initial doses will be made available to roughly 300,000 patients through a federal government allocation programme – those patients will not be charged for the drug but may have to pay part of the cost of giving the IV.

Trump observers obstructing recount in Wisconsin, officials say

Election officials in Wisconsin’s largest county have accused observers for Donald Trump of seeking to obstruct the state’s recount by in some instances objecting to every ballot tabulators pulled to assess.

County clerk George Christenson said a steady stream of Republican complaints in Milwaukee was putting the recount far behind schedule, with many Trump observers breaking rules by interrupting vote counters with questions and comments.

Trump team requests recount of Georgia presidential vote

Donald Trump’s campaign has requested a recount of votes in the Georgia presidential race, one day after state officials certified results showing Joe Biden had won the state.

Georgia’s results showed Mr Biden beating the president by 12,670 votes out of about five million cast – a margin of victory of 0.25 per cent.

Although county election officials have already done a complete hand recount of the votes, this is not considered an official recount under law.

Pennsylvania Republican senator accepts Biden win after court ruling

Pennsylvania Republican senator Pat Toomey has accepted Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election after a judge in his state dismissed a Trump campaign lawsuit challenging the result.

Mr Toomey said the president had “exhausted all plausible legal options” in the state and described District Judge Matthew Brann, who dismissed the case, as a “fair and unbiased jurist”.

“To ensure that he is remembered for [his] outstanding accomplishments, and to help unify our country, President Trump should accept the outcome of the election and facilitate the presidential transition process,” the senator added.

Liz Cheney says Trump should respect ‘sanctity’ of election if he can’t prove fraud claims

Judge throws out Trump bid to stop Pennsylvania vote certification

Another attempt by Donald Trump to overturn the 2020 presidential election result has failed after a judge in Pennsylvania dismissed a lawsuit by his campaign which sought to invalidate millions of mail-in votes.

“In the United States of America, this [lawsuit] cannot justify the disenfranchisement of a single voter, let alone all the voters of its sixth most populated state,” US District Judge Matthew Brann said.

The decision paves the way for votes in the state to be certified, confirming a victory for Joe Biden.
