Trump news live: Latest election updates as doctor claims president no longer Covid risk

US president Donald Trump greets supporters at packed rally.

Donald Trump restarted his campaign with a packed rally outside the White House after his doctor claimed he was no longer at risk of transmitting coronavirus.

Hundreds of people gathered on the South Lawn on Saturday afternoon to listen to the president give an address on his support for law enforcement from a balcony.

It was his first public appearance since returning to the White House after being treated for Covid-19 in hospital.

Mr Trump took off a mask moments after he emerged on the balcony to address the crowd on the lawn below, while attendees failed to socially distance.

This is a little strange, but apparently Trump had grand ideas about wearing a Superman T-shirt that would be revealed when he ripped open his shirt as he left hospital last week.

According to The New York Times, he suggested he could pretend to be frail when leaving the military medical centre before the big reveal.

Trump’s doctor has claimed the president is no longer at risk of transmitting the coronavirus.

He is said to meet the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) criteria for safely discontinuing isolation and that by “currently recognised standards” he is no longer considered a transmission risk.

The memo followed Mr Trump’s first public appearance since returning to the White House after being treated for the coronavirus, but it did not spell out at he had tested negative for the virus.
