Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine has had a $200,000 (£163,000) donation to a children’s charity rejected.

The donation was taken from the reported $2m 6ix9ine earnt from his new track “Gooba” and related merchandise sales. The music video broke streaming records when it was broadcast via Instagram live.

The rapper, who was recently released from prison for crimes carried out as part of the notorious Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang, has been attempting to return to the spotlight.

6ix9ine, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, entered a plea bargain and gave evidence against other gang members in order to get a reduced sentence.

In 2015, in a separate case, he pleaded guilty to an incident involving a “sexual performance” with a 13-year-old girl and was ordered to serve a four-year-probation sentence following legal problems that followed the case.

The No Kid Hungry campaign said it has a policy of rejecting funding from donors who do not fit with its values.

6ix9ine called the decision “cruel” and has since deleted the Instagram post announcing his donation to the campaign.

“We are grateful for Mr Hernandez’s generous offer to donate to No Kid Hungry but we have informed his representatives that we have declined this donation,” the charity said in a statement.

“As a child-focused campaign, it is our policy to decline funding from donors whose activities do not align with our mission and values.”

6ix9ine has also deleted the post claiming he has “never seen something so cruel”, in reference to the rejection.

Rapper Snoop Dogg recently expressed his discontent over the attention being paid to 6ix9ine, referring to him as a “rat”.
