Beyoncé has surprised her fans with a new song, “Black Parade”, in which she calls for “peace and reparation for my people”.

The track, which includes powerful lyrics about black history and the George Floyd protests, was released on Juneteenth, a holiday celebrated in the US to mark the official end of slavery.

“Black Parade” is also the name of the singer’s new project, an online directory of black-owned businesses ranging from fashion and art to food and drink.

The song is her first new solo music since she contributed to The Lion King soundtrack in 2019.

Beyoncé has been vocal throughout the the anti-racism protests sparked in May by the death of George Floyd.

In a video on her Instagram, she said she felt “broken and disgusted” by racism in America.

She demanded justice for Floyd, who died after a police officer knelt on his neck for nine minutes.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z were recently sued for copyright by Jamaican artist Dr L’Antoinette Stines over their 2018 track “Black Effect”.
