Actor Jake Gyllenhaal posted a video to Instagram of him singing a song entitled “Across the Way” as part of the viral monologue series The 24 Hour Plays.

The musical piece was written especially for him by Tony Award-winning Fun Home composer Jeanine Tesori and Rabbit Hole playwright David Lindsay-Abaire.

The Nightcrawler actor uploaded it onto his Instagram on Friday (8 May) under the caption “a love song in the age of quarantine”.

“Across the Way” includes lyrics such as ”Day 32, I washed my hands, you made a cornish hen / Day 36 you sewed a mask, I washed my hands again.“

The artistic endeavour was launched in March as a response to the coronavirus pandemic, and involves a host of participating actors including Sienna Miller, Hugh Dancy, Rita Wilson and Rachel Dratch.

Last month, the 39-year-old joined his Spider-Man: Far From Home co-star Tom Holland for a handstand video challenge.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Gyllenhaal admitted he got a frosty reception back when he nominated Hugh Jackman to take part in the handstand challenge.

“Hugh Jackman and 50 Cent did not respond,” the 39-year-old explained.

“I emailed [Hugh] and was like, ‘Come on, man.’ He said, ‘I hope you’re well.’”
