Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong rocked out with his sons while appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The musician was a virtual guest on the late-night talk show, where he treated viewers to a performance of Tommy James and the Shondells’ 1967 hit “I Think We’re Alone Now”.

Aided by his sons Joey and Jakob on guitar and drums, Armstrong jammed out to the song, which has been covered by the likes of Tiffany and Girls Aloud, from his home studio.

Throughout coronavirus lockdown, the 48-year-old has been recording cover versions of classic songs as part of his “No Fun Mondays” YouTube series.

The performances so far have included “Manic Monday” by the Bangles and “That Thing You Do!” from the 1996 film of the same name in honour of the late songwriter Adam Schlesinger, who died of Covid-19.

Speaking about the series, Armstrong told Corden: “I have a small studio, and as soon as the shutdown happened, I was like, ‘Now I can go in and to occupy my time, go in and do some recording and some writing.’”
