John Krasinski organised a special Zoom performance involving the original Broadway cast of Hamilton for a nine-year-old fan, who missed a performance due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The actor and director arranged the touching gesture during the second episode of his new YouTube show, Some Good News, in which he shares positive stories and deeds to lift people’s spirits during the coronavirus pandemic.

Aubrey, a Hamilton superfan, appeared on the show to explain why she loves the popular musical. She had originally been due to attend a performance in Jacksonville, Florida, for her ninth birthday, but was forced to cancel due to social distancing guidelines.

Krasinski, who was joined onscreen by his wife, actor Emily Blunt, then surprised Aubrey by introducing her via a Zoom chat to Lin Manuel Miranda, who created and starred in Hamilton.

Miranda’s former castmate Leslie Odom Jr then appeared and began singing Aubrey’s favourite song, opening number “Alexander Hamilton”.

He was followed by Anthony Ramos, Daveed Diggs, Okierete Onaodowan, Phillipa Soo and Christopher Jackson, plus Jasmine Cephas Jones, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, and Javier Muñoz, who was Miranda’s understudy before later starring as Hamilton.

Krasinski told the delighted Aubrey that he would also send her and her mother to see Hamilton in New York once the pandemic was over.

In the first episode of Some Good News, Krasinski was joined by his former co-star Steve Carrell to celebrate the anniversary of the US version of The Office
