Chris Hemsworth has revealed which high-profile films he almost starred in before landing the role of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The actor made the revelation in an interview with GQ Magazine Australia, stating that he was rejected by several films directors before he got his big break.

Hemsworth is now one of the world’s highest-paid actors, but before he signed on as the God of Thunder in Kenneth Branagh’s 2011 film, he lost the chance to play lead roles in X-Men and GI Joe.

“I thought one of those was going to land,” he said, discussing the films that got away. ”But then neither of them did.”

He continued: “All of a sudden I thought: this is it, I’ve missed it again. But then Thor came along.”

It’s unsure which X-Men film Hemsworth is referring to, but the first GI Joe film, Rise of the Cobra, was released in 2008 with Channing Tatum in the lead role.

Hemsworth believes he he would not have found his way to the MCU if he had ended up in another franchise beforehand.

“If I had got one of those previous roles, I wouldn’t have got Thor,” he said.

Hemsworth’s new film, Extraction, is on course to become the most successful Netflix film to date.

The Australian actor’s action thriller, produced by Avengers: Endgame directors Anthony and Joe Russo, is set to be watched by more than 90m households in its first month alone.

Dwayne Johnson recently revealed which 2012 film he was convinced he was going to star in before losing out to Tom Cruise.
